OUR HISTORY

The Cat and Kitten Care charity was founded by Fran Meyer and Mary Farrington in June 2003 and became a registered charity (number 1100897) shortly after and we recently celebrated our twentieth birthday.

Mary has been rescuing cats for over sixty years and started off by
helping her Mum, Daisy Carter. Fran started rescuing in 1998 and met Mary through another cat charity that they both volunteered for in Walthamstow. After leaving due to internal troubles within the charity we decided enough was enough and left to set up on our own. We were told at the time “You’ll never survive, You won’t be granted charity status, You haven’t got the backing you’ll need” amongst other things yet here we are, twenty years later and we are still number one cat charity in Waltham Forest and helping on a small scale in East Hertfordshire.
 

We offer help and guidance when required but, of course, we couldn’t have done it without the backing of many local cat lovers who continue to support us in a variety of different ways.
Finally our thanks must also go out to our husbands, Charlie and Alan who have been behind us every step of the way.
